Farm, Forest & Open Space Program
Your property might qualify for designation as farm, forest, or open space!
Properties enrolled with Farm designation in RI's Farm, Forest and Open Space Act are required to have a current Farm Conservation Plan. If you can provide a copy of a current USDA-NRCS plan for your farm, this requirement may be satisfied. If no current plan exists for your farm, you may have a plan prepared by your local Conservation District for a fee.
Your land might be eligible for farm designation if:
You have derived $2,500 of income from the sale of food or fiber in one of the last two years.
You have produced $2,500 of sustenance for the farm family over two years.
You are a new farmer that can demonstrate that you will eventually be able to fulfill #1 or #2.
Your farm is in a set aside program, i.e. the sale of your development rights.
